Surfboard Glassing & Contract Glass Jobs in San Diego
A full-service glass shop for San Diego shapers, board brands and backyard builders. Poly or epoxy, cut lap or free lap, resin tints, gloss and polish, fin systems installed. You shape it — we glass it.
A glass shop built around shapers
SURF619 is a veteran-owned glass shop in San Diego. We take finished blanks from independent shapers, small board brands and home builders and send them back ready to ride. Every board runs through the same hands from lam to final sand, so a six-board run comes back looking like a six-board run — not six different boards.
We glass in both polyester and epoxy, work to your glass schedule rather than ours, and keep your laminates, your logo and your spec exactly as you hand them over. Your label stays your label — we are the shop behind the board, not a name on it.
Glass schedules we run
Send us the schedule, or tell us what the board is for and who is riding it and we will spec it with you. The lay-ups we run most:
- 4oz / 4oz — light high-performance shortboards
- 6oz / 4oz — the everyday shortboard standard
- 6oz / 6oz — step-ups and boards that take a beating
- 6oz deck patch — extra glass underfoot for heavier surfers
- Double 6oz volan — logs, single fins and classic longboards
- S-glass, carbon tail patches and rail tape — stiffness without the weight
Polyester over PU or epoxy over EPS — we run both, with the right resin, cloth and additives for each. If you are not sure which way to go on a shape, ask before you glue up and we will talk it through.
Lamination, resin tints and colour work
Lamination is where a board is won or lost. Clean laps, no bubbles, no floods, no sanded-through weave. We hand-laminate every board and we are set up for both lap styles and the full range of colour work:
- Cut lap and free lap — your call, or we will recommend one for the shape
- Resin tints — translucent colour laid into the lam
- Opaques and resin panels
- Resin swirls and abstracts — no two the same
- Pinlines — single, double and tape-offs
- Fabric and rice paper inlays
- Airbrush and spray work on the blank before lam
Hot coat, gloss and polish
Sanding and finish work is the least appreciated part of a glass job and the first thing a customer notices. A board’s skin is barely a sixteenth of an inch thick, so this is where a shop either protects your shape or ruins it.
- Sanded / matte finish — the standard performance finish
- Full gloss and polish — for logs, retros and display boards
- Speed finish — for team boards and test shapes on a deadline
- Hot coat only — if you sand and finish in-house
Fin systems and hardware
Boxes routed and installed to your placement sheet, or to ours if you would rather we set it:
- FCS II and FCS plugs
- Futures boxes
- Glass-on fins
- Single-fin boxes, including 10 inch longboard boxes
- Leash plugs, vent plugs and camera mounts
Contract glassing for shapers and board brands
If you are shaping more boards than you can finish, we take contract glassing accounts. That means an agreed glass schedule, an agreed finish, an agreed turnaround and the same crew on every board so your boards come back consistent run after run.
- Standing accounts for repeat runs, or one-off boards — both welcome
- Your laminates and your logo, applied exactly as supplied
- White-label work — we never put our name on your board
- Agreed turnaround windows so you can promise your customers a date
- Blank pickup and finished-board drop-off across San Diego
New to us? Send one board through first. If you like how it comes back, we will talk about a standing account.
What a glass job costs
Every glass job is quoted on five things: board length, PU or EPS, the glass schedule, the finish, and how much colour work is involved. Fin systems and hardware are quoted on top.
Ask for the current SURF619 rate sheet and we will send our standing prices by board length, schedule and finish, plus contract rates for repeat runs.
Standing rates, published. We’re a new shop building our book, so we priced under what San Diego glass houses typically charge. Every glass job includes one fin box and one leash plug.

Surfboard glassing FAQ
Do you glass boards for other shapers?
Yes — that is most of what we do. Independent shapers, small board brands and home builders all send blanks through us. We glass under your label and we do not badge your boards.
Do you glass epoxy as well as poly?
Both. Polyester resin over PU blanks and epoxy over EPS, with the right cloth and additives for each. Tell us the blank and we will tell you what the resin will do on it.
How long does a glass job take?
Turnaround depends on the schedule, the finish and how much colour work is on the board. We give you a date when we quote, and contract accounts get an agreed standing window.
Can I supply my own cloth, laminates or fin boxes?
Yes. Send them with the blank and we will run them. If you would rather we supply, we stock standard cloth, boxes and plugs.
Do you take one-off boards, or only production runs?
Both. Plenty of shapers start with a single board to see how it comes back. There is no minimum.
Can you fix a glass job that went wrong somewhere else?
Usually. Sand-throughs, delams, bubbles and bad laps can often be saved. Send a photo and we will tell you honestly whether it is worth it. We also do full ding repair and restoration.
Got blanks waiting to be glassed?
Send us the spec and we will come back with a price and a date. Free blank pickup in San Diego and San Clemente.
